Center for Avian Germ Cell Modulation and Cloning

The Center for Avian Germ Cell Modulation and Cloning aims to identify biological features of the reproductive cells of birds; control the genes carried by the birds’ primordial germ cells; and establish a customized bird production system. To achieve the above goals, the Center intends to identify the modulators related to the maintenance, development and division of reproductive cells using the above-explained techniques; study the development of reproductive cells using the findings from the above efforts for identification; and identify the mechanisms and meanings of cells exchanging signals and their differentiation from somatic cells.

The Center intends to help the applicable academic and industrial areas grow by establishing a new academic discipline by cloning and producing custom-made birds (i.e., of which functions were enhanced by controlling the genes in the reproductive cells) and by conducting research projects such as the establishment of a perpetual bird resource preservation system.
