CALS Spring Festival, “Nok-eum (綠陰)” Held
On May 20, with early summer approaching, the CALS Spring Festival was held in front of Building 75-1’s Agricultural Plaza. The students enjoyed a variety of programs, including food trucks, coffee carts, booths presented by various departments and clubs, along with captivating busking performances. The event unfolded seamlessly in a bright and cheerful atmosphere. To ensure this, many student staff members worked hard behind the scenes. The following is the interview with Kim Min-sung (Agricultural and Resource Economics, Class of 2024), the Vice President of the CALS Student Council.

1. The 2025 CALS Spring Festival was titled "Nok-eum (綠陰)." What meaning does the festival name carry?
We chose the keyword "Nok-eum (綠陰)" to capture the feeling of early summer in May. It also pairs well with the keywords “nostalgia” and “retro,” which defined this year’s festival mood.

2. It seems the booths also reflected the retro atmosphere of the festival. What elements did you emphasize in booth planning?
This year, unlike in the past, each booth was planned by a team composed of two departments. The booth content was coordinated through meetings with each department’s student representatives. The CALS Student Council only proposed the overall theme and atmosphere, and each booth incorporated elements like Polaroids and retro props to reflect the concept well. We also set up a trampoline this year, which aligned well with the retro theme and received positive responses in previous years.

3. It looks like there were many things to prepare. What specific tasks did the CALS Student Council handle for the festival?
Since February, we’ve been preparing based on feedback from the previous festival. Tasks included contacting vendors (like food trucks and trampolines), selecting and supporting busking performances, managing card news and promotional materials, and creating emergency response manuals. On the festival day, we also operated info booths, rest areas, and photo booths to ensure a smooth and safe event.

4. As a member of the CALS Student Council, do you have any message for the students?
Thank you to everyone who participated in the spring festival. We’ll be hosting an e-sports tournament during the summer vacation too, so please look forward to it and participate in it. Lastly, we’ll continue doing our best to support your pleasant college experience, so we ask for your continued encouragement and support.

Next is the interview with Han Yoon-seo (Agricultural and Resource Economics, Class of 2024), the CALS Student Council Member and Booth Manager.

1. Which booth did you run at the festival?
I was in charge of overall planning and setup of the booths, and I personally ran the “Bottle Cap Toss” booth.

2. What part of booth preparation was the most challenging?
We put effort into preparing prizes to boost participation in the bottle cap toss booth. Since many students enjoy capturing memories through photos, we offered free photo booth coupons as event prizes.

3. Did many people visit your booth?
Yes, we had great results. Because we had many events prepared including personality tests, green tea blending, fortune telling booths, and a wide variety of food trucks, many people thankfully came and enjoyed the festival!

4. Any advice for the next group of student organizers?
It is important that large-scale events like this can create meaningful experiences for many people. Thus, while the process can be difficult, I hope that the next organizers can also plan the festival in an exciting and meaningful way, based on both the challenges and successes we have encountered.

The interviews revealed the passion and sincerity of the students who put in great time and effort to prepare for the spring festival. We extend our thanks to all students and staff who helped ensure the event was enjoyable and safe, and we look forward to the fall festival in the second semester.
