이돈구 교수 (산림과학부 교수 및 IUFRO 회장)는 ‘사회와 환경, 그리고 지구의 미래를 위한 산림의 역할’이라는 주제로 제23차 세계산림과학대회(IUFRO 세계총회) 를 오는 2010년 8월 23일부터 28일까지 서울 COEX에서 개최할 예정이다. 이번 대회에 110여개 국가의 산림분야 각료급 인사와 UN 등 각종 국제기구 인사, 학자 등 해외인사 3,000여명을 비롯해 모두 4,000여명이 참석할 예정이다. 또한 이번 학술대회는 우리나라의 녹화성공, 저 탄소 녹색성장의 정책을 전세계에 홍보하는 기회가 될 것이며, 기후변화 및 산림분야 국제논의에서 주도적 역할을 수행할 수 있는 전기를 마련하는 기회가 될 것이다.

The IUFRO President, Professor Don Koo Lee of the Department of Forest Sciences, Seoul National University, is spearheading the 23rd IUFRO World Congress which will be held at the COEX Convention Center in Seoul, Republic of Korea from 23rd to 28th August 2010. With the theme “Forests for the Future: Sustaining Society and the Environment”, more than 4,000 delegates including about 3,000 foreign participants will join in this event. Various forestry professionals and experts including forestry scientists, policy makers and stakeholders in over 110 countries will meet and discuss the latest information on forest scientific research, policy and technological innovations. It will be a great opportunity to showcase our efforts on successful reforestation attained in Korea and green growth policy concerning low carbon emission, and to show our ability to lead in addressing climate change issues among the forestry sectors.
