Overview
The Department of Food and Animal Biotechnology focuses on advancing education and research in food and animal biotechnology—fields critical to human welfare and industrial growth. The department conducts cutting-edge research applying biotechnological innovations to food and animal sciences, while adopting modern educational techniques to develop professionals equipped for the 21st century in alignment with Seoul National University's long-term goals.
The Food Science & Biotechnology major provides an advanced foundation in the science and technology behind food properties, safety, nutritional & functional enhancement, and their profound effects on human health. Students gain expertise in innovative biotechnological knowledge, from fundamental biology to AI-driven research, preparing them to lead in advancing a healthier, more resilient food system.
The Animal Science & Biotechnology major develops professionals skilled in advanced biotechnological and animal resource utilization techniques. Research focuses on securing essential bioresources, bioactive compound production, and treatments for complex diseases and environments, all aimed at improving human welfare as well as domestic and companion animals.
Graduates enjoy strong career prospects in leading universities, research institutes, and biotechnology-related industries domestically and globally, including fields such as food, animal resources, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medicine.
