Prof. Tae-Jin Yang’s team at Seoul National University assembled a high-quality genome of Glycyrrhiza uralensis and revealed the hybrid origin and evolutionary history of licorice species through genome-wide analysis of 29 individuals. The study identified three hybrid groups bridging G. uralensis and G. glabra, offering key insights into genetic variability and conservation of this medicinally and economically important plant. The study was published in Scientific Reports (April 2025).
