Celebrating Arbor Day

The CALS, SNU hosted a tree-planting event to celebrate Arbor Day with Se-jeong Oh, the Principal of SNU, in a flower garden at the CALS Square on April 5, 2019. A pine tree grown at the Chilbosan Research Center was planted. This tree is commonly used for ornamental or commemorative purposes. The tree was originally planted in the Chilbosan Research Forest in 2003 when the CALS relocated from Suwon to Gwanak, but it was placed back on campus during the event.
In the past, the CALS, SNU reconstructed the once-barren landscapes of South Korea resulting from the Korean War through the efforts of former professors such as the late Professor Shin-gyu Hyeon, and by running forest greenification projects. Principal Se-jeong Oh, the executive branch, Suk-ha Lee, the Dean of the CALS, and other affiliated professors were present at the event to celebrate the 74th Arbor Day in recognition of the country’s successful forest greenification and remind themselves of the significance of Arbor Day.
Following the commemorative tree-planting event and a photo session was the Professors’ Conference. During the conference, the principal, the executive branches, and professors of the CALS shared their opinions regarding the current issues experienced by the SNU headquarters and the CALS such as lack of research space and other education-related issues, as well as sharing possible development strategies.
